BRENTFORD, UK/VIENNA, AUSTRIA, 6 March 2010 – Agfa HealthCare, the leading provider of diagnostic imaging and healthcare IT solutions, announces today that it has installed the United Kingdom’s first IMPAX 6.4 Picture Archiving and Communications System at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth in London. The solution allows departments outside of radiology, and even offsite locations, to access key data and images.

Founded in 1856, St John & St Elizabeth is one of the country's largest independent charity Hospitals and the UK's premier Catholic Hospital. The facility has approximately 600 specialists working in the outpatient and inpatient areas. It has an extensive range of out-patient clinics and general practitioner services and 155 in-patient beds in single rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom.

The tight integration between the existing Agfa HealthCare RIS (Radiology Information System) and IMPAX enables physicians and specialists to view reports at a single workstation, without the need to switch between applications. This not only provides a common user interface for staff – over 30 radiologists from all over London work at the hospital – but also optimises the performance of the site's existing hardware and technical infrastructure. By using a single sign-on, macro templates and context sharing, IMPAX reporting helps to decrease turnaround times, eliminate transcription costs and vastly improves the delivery of patient care, whilst reducing waiting times.

IMPAX 6.4 also provides individual users with an intuitive wizard that efficiently organises automated tasks so that users' 'to do' lists remain current, allowing professionals to work the way they wish. Alongside the new PACS and RIS, the Hospital's solution also includes Voice Recognition software within the Radiology Department, which has significantly streamlined reporting procedures, and enabled clinicians around the hospital to readily access reports of a patient's entire radiology history via their PC's.

"Our drive to be one of the leading hospitals in the United Kingdom means that our physicians, and their patients, expect us to have the best, latest and most reliable solutions to support their needs" states the customer. "The installation of Agfa HealthCare's IMPAX 6.4 is therefore key in supporting our requirements".

Hans Vandewyngaerde, Vice President Europe at Agfa HealthCare said, "We are proud to have been selected by such a leading facility in the UK. The new IMPAX software we have installed at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth has been specially designed with the customer in mind. And, due to the commercial licensing model, this can be tailored to any hospital's individual bespoke needs, creating great value and return on investment. We look forward to an engaging and positive relationship with the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth".
