Quality control: new problems, new solutions
Quality control (QC) may not be one of the most high-profile aspects of radiation therapy but it is certainly one of the most important. Parameters such as radiation beam output and profile as well as the collimated field shape and size need to be checked regularly to ensure that linacs are delivering the right amount of radiation to the right spot. Right now, QC is in a period of transition. That much was clear from the presentations at New Quality Control Methods in Radiotherapy, a conference organized by the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) in London, UK, last week.
