Specifically, Varian Medical Systems, the US equipment maker with $1.6 billion in annual revenues and an already extensive portfolio of radiotherapy, brachytherapy and radiosurgery products to its name, is to acquire ACCEL Instruments, a privately held German developer of proton-therapy systems and scientific research instruments.
