Why IGRT needs a common language
Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) is routinely billed as the next big thing in radiation oncology - and justifiably so. The ability to scan patients in the treatment room immediately prior to irradiation presents many possibilities for generating a more accurate picture of the tumour's extent and coordinates in 3D space. Properly exploited, that capability should, over time, yield significant improvements in clinical outcome and patient survival.
