PDT dosimetry: singlet oxygen is the key
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an innovative and promising technique for destroying tumours, though one that hasn't as yet really made it into the clinical mainstream. PDT works via complex chemical processes, and some experts have attributed the technique's failure to live up to its full potential to the difficulty of monitoring and evaluating treatments (see PDT dosimetry: a problem waiting to be solved). US company Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI) of Andover, MA, thinks it has come up with a solution - a sensor that monitors the production of singlet oxygen in real time.
