Imaging sheds light on treatment response
Locally advanced breast cancer (LABC) is generally treated with neoadjuvant therapy to shrink the tumours prior to surgical removal. In up to two-thirds of cases, however, such intervention is unsuccessful. What's more, a negative therapeutic response is typically only determined months after treatment commences, by which point the patient may have already received unnecessary chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy with potentially toxic side-effects.
