Radium-223 targets bone metastasis
The alpha-emitting radioactive isotope radium-223 (Ra) could form the basis of a promising new treatment for bone metastases, according to research just published online by The Lancet Oncology. A multicentre trial with prostate-cancer patients demonstrated that 223Ra is at least as effective as currently used radiopharmaceuticals and is also considerably less toxic (Lancet Oncol. DOI:10.1016/S1470-2045(07)70147-X).
