Proton therapy's military dividend
US equipment maker TomoTherapy (Madison, WI) has agreed to finance continued development of a next-generation particle accelerator that, if commercialized, could form the basis of a compact and inexpensive proton-therapy system. Initial work on the technology is being pioneered by a collaboration involving Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (Livermore, CA) and the University of California Davis Cancer Center (Sacramento, CA).
