The inside track on white matter
White matter is the stuff that enables information to be transferred from one part of the brain to another. Think of it as the brain's wiring, a vast complex of nerve fibres that form the connections between nerve cells. As such, white matter is crucial for effective brain function, but it does sometimes go wrong. Worse, there are a myriad of ways in which it can break down, resulting in a whole host of neurological disorders.
