Gamma imaging: best for detecting DCIS?
The diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) - the precursor to almost all invasive breast cancers - is a popular endeavour of late. Hot on the heels of a study demonstrating MRI's superiority to mammography for detecting DCIS (see: MRI proves best for early detection), early findings from the George Washington University Medical Center (Washington, DC) suggest that breast-specific gamma imaging (BSGI) may provide a higher sensitivity than either mammography or MRI.
