Probing MRI-induced electric fields
Forthcoming legislation on exposure to electromagnetic fields has highlighted some of the occupational hazards that MR workers and clinical-trial volunteers face. One area of concern is the uncomfortable tingling sensation, known as peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS), that's induced by rapidly switching magnetic fields. Although the precise trigger mechanism for PNS remains unknown, regulators hope to address this problem by limiting the current density induced in the body by a changing magnetic field.
