Cell survival offers IMRT insight
Incorporating models that describe the effects of radiation upon tissue into radiotherapy treatment plans should improve treatment outcomes. Traditionally, such radiobiological models assume that cell survival is directly related to the local radiation dose. In reality, however, the dose-response relation is a lot more complex. Cell survival is also influenced by the fate of neighbouring cells - the so-called Bystander effect.
