Security screening: caution advised
Walking through a metal detector en route to the departure lounge is a routine part of air travel nowadays. But the electromagnetic emission used to detect metal objects also generates undesired electromagnetic energy depositions within the people passing through. A team of US researchers has examined this effect in more detail, with particular attention to the level of exposure received by pregnant women (Phys. Med. Biol. 52 5735).
