MRS cuts down on false positives
MRI plays an increasingly important role in the screening of women at high risk for breast cancer. But while this technique depicts more abnormal findings than other screening procedures, when it comes to distinguishing benign from malignant lesions, it's not ideal. According to a recent study at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (New York, NY), the concurrent use of proton MR spectroscopy (MRS) can help make this distinction and reduce the number of false-positive MRI findings (Radiology 245 80).
