PET/CT spots cancer spread earlier
Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare but extremely aggressive form of breast cancer that's also particularly difficult to detect. The disease, which is characterized by redness, swelling or warmth in the breast, often metastasizes before it is diagnosed and can be lethal in just six to nine months. Researchers at the M D Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, TX) hope to improve this prognosis by using fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-PET/CT to spot the spread of cancer as early as possible.
