MRI-linac tackles image-guided treatment
In the pursuit of real-time image guidance during radiation therapy, researchers are considering the possibility of merging a linac with an MRI system. Such a set-up, however, means that the photon beam is delivered in the presence of a magnetic field, which can alter its dose deposition characteristics. Now researchers in Canada have proposed a novel MRI-linac system that could help minimize this effect (Med. Phys. 35 1019).
