Layered leaves improve beam shaping
Multileaf collimators (MLCs) have emerged as an efficient way to shape 3D treatment fields in radiotherapy. However, the finite size of individual leaves can cause a stepped effect at field margins. Radiation leakage through leaf ends is also a concern, particularly during intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). An innovative dual-layer leaf arrangement could be the answer.
