HIFU gets inside your head
Non-invasive treatment of brain lesions using transcranial high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) could avoid the need for craniotomy. Unfortunately, the skull induces strong aberrations in the ultrasound beam, making conventional HIFU unsuitable for intracranial targets. A new technique under development at the ESPCI's Laboratoire Ondes et Acoustique in Paris, France, could solve this defocusing problem.
