Monte Carlo optimizes AMD radiotherapy
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a major cause of vision impairment in older adults. The wet variant - which accounts for 80% of cases involving severe loss of vision - is characterized by the extension of blood vessels in and around the retina's photoreceptor cells. This neovascularization is prone to leakage and bleeding, with the resulting damage to photoreceptor cells causing the deterioration in vision.
