PET selects 'must treat' lymph nodes
Irradiating all lymph nodes in the mediastinum has long been regarded as an effective way of stopping lung cancer from spreading. However, if disease-free nodes were excluded from the treatment plan, more radiation could be delivered to the main tumour itself without exceeding safe dose limits. This could improve the outcome of patients undergoing chemo-radiotherapy for lung cancer.
