A broad approach to motion management
The ongoing pursuit of ways to address breathing-induced tumour motion during radiotherapy has led to the emergence of a wide variety of motion-management techniques. Proposed strategies include tracking target movement using implanted or external markers, respiratory gating and online image guidance, and even employing respiratory models to predict and account for motion at the treatment planning stage. Several of these approaches were discussed at the recent ASTRO Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL.
