Daily CBCT: adding up the dose
Pre-treatment cone beam CT (CBCT) promises to improve the accuracy of radiotherapy, allowing practitioners to verify patient position before the beam is turned on. However, although the dose associated with these planning scans is much, much lower than that from treatment fractions, the cumulative dose from daily CBCT imaging is not insignificant. Critical organs close to the target tumour could potentially be at greater risk of radiation-induced damage.
