A journal's Impact Factor is a measure of the frequency with which an "average article" is cited, up to two years following publication. Physics in Medicine & Biology's success confirms the journal's reputation for publishing excellent research, and shows that researchers who publish in Physics in Medicine & Biology are in the right place to be cited by their peers.
"I am delighted to see this Impact Factor, which is a testament to the high quality of the scientific work published in PMB. It is also a measure of the success of the publishing strategy evolved by the Editorial Board and a demonstration of the excellent collaboration between authors, referees, journal publisher (IOP Publishing) and journal owner (IPEM). I very much want to highlight this team effort," said the journal's Editor-in-Chief Steve Webb, professor of radiological physics at the University of London and head of the Joint Department of Physics at the Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
Alongside the success of Physics in Medicine & Biology, several other of IOP Publishing's family of biomedical journals posted similarly impressive results. The Journal of Neural Engineering saw a 37% increase in Impact Factor to 3.739, while Biomedical Materials experienced a 59% increase to an Impact Factor of 1.963.
