Lower the dose, maintain the accuracy
Image guidance in radiotherapy – be it cone-beam CT positioning scans or intra-fraction kilovoltage (kV) imaging of moving tumours – offers the potential to increase targeting accuracy. The associated imaging dose delivered to the patient, however, can be cause for concern. At the recent American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) annual meeting in Philadelphia, PA, speakers presented strategies for reducing dose whilst retaining imaging information.
