SAVI device increases APBI eligibility
Accelerated partial-breast irradiation (APBI) following lumpectomy minimizes the dose to healthy tissue and, in suitable cases, can provide similar local control to whole-breast irradiation. Available APBI methods include interstitial brachytherapy, balloon brachytherapy and 3D conformal therapy. In addition, newer devices have been introduced to the market, for example, the strut-adjusted volume implant (SAVI) from Cianna Medical (Aliso Viejo, CA).
